MASTER ZOFFANY – 2018 BAY COLT BY ZOFFANY (IRE) EX DUFOOF (IRE) (2012)

UPDATE 6/4/20: All still going well. In the video clip (below) of him on the Gallops, look at him picking-up on that older Lead Horse into and out of the bend! Richard’s comments: “Grand, hardy horse”… “No issues at all”… “Just gets on with his job”… “Happy horse”… “Grown a bit, done well.”

‘Let’s Go Racing 2’ has just two 6.5% Shares remaining available in this attractive two-year-old Colt, now named MASTER ZOFFANY. [Note: A good name! ‘Master’ both because he’s a son of ‘Mister’ Zoffany and also because Johannes Zoffany was a ‘Master’ Portrait Artist of the 18th Century.]

This friendly Partnership, welcoming to new members, is run by John Wicks who has managed the ‘Let’s Go Racing 1’ horses (current horse ‘Luis Vaz De Torres’, a multiple winner) in Training with Richard Fahey since 1999. This is an opportunity to become involved in ‘Full Ownership’ of a Racehorse, in the hands of one of the UK’s top Trainers, on a basis that represents true value-for-money.

Foaled on 6th April, 2018, MASTER ZOFFANY was bred by the well-respected Round Hill Stud (Co. Limerick, Ireland) and went through the Ring at Tattersalls ‘Book 3’ (‘bought-in’ at 18,000gns) on 17th August. Upon going into Training at Richard Fahey’s Musley Bank Yard, the Vendor agreed to the transfer of Ownership to ‘Let’s Go Racing 2’ (in which Richard holds Shares) at the ‘bought-in’ value – an option which Richard recommended to the Partnership.

In his 13th April write-up for Sporting Life’s ‘Stable Tour’ features, Richard said this about his 2yos: “We bought more staying types for this year. They’re hard horses to get but there’s a programme set out or them. We didn’t keep away from the sharp ones but also bought a lot who needed a bit of time so the lockdown hasn’t been a disaster for them. Tony Hamilton reckons this is the best bunch we’ve ever had – he’s an extremely good judge who doesn’t usually say things like that. I hope he’s right.

MASTER ZOFFANY is bred to be an 8f (maybe ‘plus’) horse as a 3yo so he ‘approaches’ the type to get a little further than the Yearlings which Richard has tended to buy over recent years. He’s straightforward and has proved a quick learner, being ‘ridden away’ and on Richard’s Gallops as early as 6th December after being ‘backed’ only in mid-November. Having progressed to easy Canters over a stiff 6f by the end of 2019 and now just ticking over, we’re hoping we’ve something to look forward to; nothing to-date suggests that we don’t! Given his breeding and the fact that he is a 6th April foal, the delayed start to this year’s Flat Season can only be beneficial to him. Still ‘dreaming’, those already involved can’t wait…!

£150,000 ‘Tattersalls October Auction Stakes’

By going through the Ring at Tattersalls ‘Book 3’, MASTER ZOFFANY became eligible for the £150,000 ‘Tattersalls October Auction Stakes’ over 6f to be run on Newmarket’s ‘Rowley Mile’ Course on 3rd October 2020. He now has an actual Entry in this race because Richard – who trained the 3rd (bought for just 4,500gns) in the 2019 running of this race – felt this to be appropriate at the time of the mid-January ‘Early Closing Date’ for this race.

‘Plus 10’ Bonus Races

Following payment of the remaining fee of £300, MASTER ZOFFANY is also qualified for ‘Plus 10’ races. What this means is that if he were to win a Maiden race at ‘Class 4’ level (or better) an additional £5,625 in prize money would be earned for Partners.

His Family

ZOFFANY is established amongst the leading young sires of 2yos, including of ALBIGNA, winner of the Group 1 2019 Prix Marcel Boussac. The Colt himself is the second foal of a daughter of SHAMARDAL, sire of 2019 champion 2yo PINATUBO and 2019 champion sprinter BLUE POINT, and from an excellent family which includes multiple champion ARDROSS (runner-up, by a ‘Head’, in the 1982 Prix de l’Arc de Triomph), and unlucky 2019 Melbourne Cup runner-up MASTER OF REALITY.

His Sire

ZOFFANY himself was a Group 1 winner as a 2yo and the following year was joint top-rated Miler in Ireland. He was second, and closing, by only ¾ length (making up ground from the back of the Field) to Frankel in the Group 1 St James’ Palace Stakes, over 1 mile, at Royal Ascot in June 2011.

His Dam

DUFOOF – by SHAMARDAL (USA) and out of a Listed race winner (EVENSONG (GER)) – was in Training with William Haggas when in the Ownership of Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum. A 90,000gns Yearling, she was unraced as a 2yo and raced just twice (in July Maidens) as a 3yo. She was 3rd over 7f at Doncaster and then last at Chelmsford City over 1 mile where something presumably was not as it should be since she didn’t race again.

To-date, DUFOOF is the Dam of 1 runner from 2 foals of racing age (the second foal being our Colt):- QUERCUS (IRE), bred for further, ran a ‘quick-fire’ 3 times over 6f and 7f as a 2yo during September 2019 and is now qualified for Handicapping.

Terms [Please do read the whole of this Section to get a true idea of what’s on offer]

The upfront and all-inclusive ‘Budgeted Cost’ of a 6.5% Share is £3,650 to the end of the 2020 Flat Season. This single payment is due upon joining the Partnership, there being no additional monthly payments, and covers all anticipated costs.

Since the ‘Budgeted Cost’ has been assessed on a conservative basis, it is entirely likely – but not guaranteed – that there will be a fairly significant ‘surplus’ at the end of the 2020 Flat Season. Any such surplus, which on numerous occasions has been in the range £500-£1,000 per Share in relation to horses owned by both ‘Let’s Go Racing 1’ and ‘Let’s Go Racing 2’, belongs to the Partners.

[Note: All of our Partners are of equal ‘status’ since all Shares are set at 6.5% only. No Partner with, say, a 3.25% Share will participate in the same overall ‘experience’ at half the cost incurred by another Partner who might have, say, a 6.5% Share. Additionally, fixing all Shares at 6.5% means there’ll not be an ‘overcrowded’ Parade Ring when MASTER ZOFFANY is running.]

Other aspects of being a Partner include:-

– Provision of an ‘Owner’ Racecourse Badge whenever MASTER ZOFFANY is racing. [*]

– A formal Partnership Agreement being in place.

– Annual Accounts being produced.

– Prize money due to Partners being credited in full.

– Regular visits to Richard Fahey’s Stables.

– Public Liability Insurance being in place for the Partners.

– Mortality Insurance being in place – for the Colt!

– Regular contact from an attentive ‘Partnership Manager’!

[* Provision of more than 4 Owner Badges cannot be guaranteed if MASTER ZOFFANY is racing at certain ‘high profile’ Meetings such as Royal Ascot – it can happen! – since additional Badges may simply not be available. Every attempt would be made to get around such a problem, however, as was achieved when ‘Royal Ascot’ was held at York Racecourse in June 2005 and additional Owner Badges were obtained via online ‘Sources’.]
